Gandhinagar : The Gujarat High Court Monday directed the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation to continue with its drive to seal unauthorised constructions in the city, including those on the posh CG Road.
A bench of Chief Justice S.J. Mukhopadhaya and Justice J.B. Pardiwala said the decision of the state assembly to regularise unauthorised construction by taking a fee has not come in force as on Monday and the civic body need not wait for the law to be enacted to implement the court’s earlier directions.
Thus, before this new law comes into force, the AMC would start sealing the remaining unauthorised constructions on the CG Road and other areas of the city.
The court had earlier vacated the stay granted against the sealing drive while observing that the petitioners, the CG Road Shop Owners Association and others, had failed to comply with its earlier directions on resolving issues of fire safety norms, providing parking space and other measures within the time given to them.
The AMC was earlier issued a contempt notice by the court for not complying with its order, following which the civic body resumed the drive to seal illegal constructions and remove encroachments.
