Karachi: Pakistan’s runaway wicket-keeper Zulqarnain Haider has reportedly cancelled his flight back home from London after claiming that he has received fresh threats.
Zulqarnain, who rocked Pakistan cricket last November when he deserted the national team in Abu Dhabi and fled to Britain just hours before a One-day International, was planning to return to Lahore from London on Sunday but according to TV reports, he has changed his mind after “receiving threatening telephone calls”.
He told Geo Television Thursday that an anonymous caller from Pakistan threatened him, saying: “You are coming back despite being told not to come, you are responsible for the consequences.”
Zulqarnain, according to the report, has informed Scotland Yard about the calls and has decided against returning home.
The player revoked his application for asylum in Britain last week after meeting Rehman Malik, Pakistan’s interior minister, in London. Reports said that Zulqarnain is now mulling a fresh asylum application.
