Lucknow: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) is contemplating to become a party in the ongoing criminal case filed by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for Babri Masjid/Ram Janambhoomi issue at Raibareilly.
The 51-member Executive Committee (EC) of the AIMPLB, which met at Hyderabad today, resolved that its legal committee will sort out the intricacies which will enable the board to be a party in the CBI’s case at Raibareilly. The CBI has filed case against seven persons including Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader LK Advani in Raibareilly where the next date slated for hearing is April 27.
“We are seriously considering to be party to the case and the legal committee will take up the matter. Any decision will be taken after sorting out the legal formalities,” said EC member, AIMPLB and Convenor, Legal Cell, Zafaryab Jilani over phone from Hyderabad on Sunday. He also stated that the case should be heard on a day to day basis and speeding up the witness examination.
The EC meeting which was presided by AIMPLB chief and rector, Nadwatul Uloom, Maulana Rabey Hasan Nadwi also discussed the Liberhan Commission report and demanded the union government to take prompt action over its findings.
Another major decision taken during the meeting was that the board will not accept changes in Waqf Act as proposed by the union government. As per the changes, the waqf properties will be managed by the agencies nominated by union government with revenue sharing with the waqf boards. “We are against it and demand that government should not interfere in it and the control of waqf properties should remain with the waqf boards,” said Jilani. The EC meeting also resolved its commitment for strengthening and setting up Darul Qaza (Islamic Courts) across the country.
After the EC meeting a public meeting which was attended by over 250 prominent Muslim clerics was also held on Sunday.
