CPI-M leader’s speech impermissible, but all to be blamed: Bardhan

By IANS,

Kolkata: While admitting that Communist leader Anil Basu had used impermissible language against Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, Communist Party of India (CPI) general secretary A.B. Bardhan Sunday said the path was shown by West Bengal’s opposition parties.

“The language used by (Left Front’s major ally Communist Party of India-Marxist leader) Anil Basu was impermissible and the party has taken very proper action against him,” said Bardhan.

“But it was not one-sided. The language used by the Opposition parties against leaders of the Left Front and the ministers were equally bad,” he said.

Criticising the media for continuously airing the recording of the comments made by Anil Basu in a public rally, Bardhan said: “Despite use of utterly reprehensible languages by the opposition leaders some people are not reacting. Media should be balanced in its coverage”.

He also expressed his satisfaction on the actions taken by the CPI-M leadership.

The CPI-M leadership has forced Basu, a former Lok Sabha member, to apologise in public and barred him from addressing any public meetings for the party.

“Battle of politics is not a slinging match between two groups. Now after the apology the chapter should be closed and we should move ahead,” said Bardhan.
