Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh Saturday made a surprise visit to a village in Raipur district where the local people recently built a dam to irrigate their fields, without any government help.
Official sources said that Singh landed at Devrung village where the villagers constructed a dam on the Jonk river, a tributary of Mahanadi, at their own resources to irrigate about 1,500 acres land standing crops were dying due to lack of water.
“Raman Singh witnessed the dam built by villagers through collections,” the sources said, adding that the chief minister termed the villagers effort “a highly inspirational work”.
