New Delhi: The government should look at introducing a one-time amnesty scheme so that people who have black money can make correct declaration of assets, but punish people who do not avail of the scheme, new Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) president B. Muthuraman said Monday.
“We and I personally am of the view that there should be an amnesty scheme. But it should be introduced once and not over and over again,” Muthuraman told reporters after taking over as president of CII.
“And if they still do not come forward, you must punish them,” he said.
Talking to media for the first time in his new role, Muthuraman, who is also the vice chairman of Tata Steel, said that transparency in the way the government functioned was a key challenge in achieving a higher growth trajectory.
“If India is to emerge as a global destination for capital, then the importance of quality of governance cannot be overemphasised,” he said.
