New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday said it did not approve of the shoe hurling at former Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chief Suresh Kalmadi by a young man, but added that the incident was a manisfestation of public anger.
BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said Tuesday that public was showing its anger in different ways.
“Public is showing anger in different ways. It is definitely the manisfestation of public anger against not enough being done to get people accused of corruption to book. Unless there is timely action, public outcry will repeat,” she said.
On incidents of shoe hurling at rallies of political leaders, Sitharaman said: “Such a step is not good.”
BJP leader L.K. Advani was victim of a “shoe attack” in Madhya Pradesh during campaiging for the 2009 Lok Sabha polls when a party worker targeted him with his wooden footwear.
An unemployed man Tuesday flung a slipper at Kalmadi as he was entering the Patiala House court premises.
Kalmadi, who was arrested Monday by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) over alleged financial irregularities in granting contracts for the October 2010 Commonwealth Games, has been sent to eight days’ police custody Tuesday.
