Omar appoints his deputy in home department

By IANS,

Jammu : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Tuesday appointed Minister of State for Tourism Nasir Wani as his deputy in the home department, a statement said.

So far, there was no minister of state for home in the state government.

Nasir is one of Omar’s trusted lieutenants and also holds the charge of housing and urban development as minister of state.

No particular reason was given for Nasir’s appointment, but it is understood that Omar is keen to have someone to assist him in the all-important home department, especially when summer is approaching.

The Kashmir Valley witnessed three turbulent summers since 2008 and the government is eager to avoid a repeat this year.
