Special trains to clear rush due to pilots’ strike

By IANS,

New Delhi : The railway ministry Thursday said it would run special trains to clear the rush of passengers following the strike by Air India pilots.

The strike by some 600 pilots of the erstwhile Indian Airlines, now co-opted into Air India, entered the second day Thursday, in defiance of the stay ordered by Delhi High Court.

Northern Railway has planned two pairs of special trains — New Delhi to Kolkata and New Delhi to Mumbai — on April 28 while a pair has been planned from Mumbai to Hyderabad by Central Railway on April 29.

“These trains are Rajdhani-type fully air-conditioned super special trains and will have first, second and third air-conditioned coaches,” the ministry said in a statement.

“Railways will keep watch on the waiting list of the trains and attach additional coaches to clear extra rush subject to operational feasibility and availability of coach-stock,” it added.

The public relations offices and commercial offices of respective zonal railways have started disseminating information about the detailed time-table of these special trains.

The trains are also available on passenger reservation system for booking.
