Kalmadi admitted to AIIMS after check-up

By IANS,

New Delhi : Days after he dismissed reports that he was suffering from dementia, former Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chief Suresh Kalmadi was Monday admitted to the All India Institute of Medicine Sciences (AIIMS) after a check-up by a team of doctors, including a neurologist.

“He underwent a check-up in the morning. He was admitted to the cardio neurosciences department in the hospital around 3.40 p.m.,” said an official from the hospital who did not wish to be named.

“A three-member team of doctors will conduct tests on him. It is difficult to say for how long he has been admitted,” added the official.

Kalmadi, 67, complained of dizziness, depression and anxiety and was taken to the Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan Hospital July 19 and an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan was carried out on him.

Kalmadi July 28 also underwent a brain scan at the AIIMS and dismissed reports that he was suffering from dementia. He said he was “perfectly all right”.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) May 20 filed its first charge sheet in the case against Kalmadi and 10 others, describing the former CWG OC chief as a prime accused and the mastermind in a corruption case related to financial irregularities in awarding a Rs.141 crore contract for timing, scoring and result equipment for the October 2010 mega sporting event.
