Bajaj Auto’s Q1 sales up 14 percent

Mumbai : Two- and three-wheeler manufacturer Bajaj Auto Tuesday reported an increase of 14 percent in its sales, including exports, for July at 363,712 units as compared to 318,415 units in the corresponding month of last year.

Segment-wise the company reported an increase of 14 percent in its motorcycle sales at 318,095 as against 279,781 units in July of 2010.

“The bigger and sportier Pulsar and Discover brands contributed 64 percent of motorcycle sales,” the company said in a regulatory filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

According to the filing, the commercial vehicle segment, which includes three-wheeler sales, grew at 18 percent in the month under review at 45,617 units as compared to 38,634 units in the like period of last year.

The company also reported an increase of 35 percent in its exports at 143,996 as compared to 106,794 units in the corresponding month of last year.

For the first quarter of 2011-12, the company reported an increase of 17 percent in its sales, including exports, at 1,456,527 units as against 1,246,751 units in the like period of 2010-11.

“Strong double-digit growth continues for motorcycles, three-wheelers and exports,” the filing said.

Segment-wise sales were led by the company’s motorcycle brands with a sales growth of 16 percent at 1,281,146 as against 1,108,172 units in the first quarter of 2010-11.

Commercial vehicles reported an increase of 27 percent in sales for the quarter under review at 175,381 units as compared 138,552 units in the corresponding quarter of last fiscal.

Exports for the quarter jumped by 33 percent at 571,360 units as against 430,693 units in the first quarter of 2010-11.
