BJP denies irate Yeddyurappa smashed laptop

New Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday dismissed as “totally baseless” a media report that former Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa angrily smashed the laptop of party leader M. Venkaiah Naidu after being told to resign.

While Naidu issued a statement denying the episode, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley also rejected the report as false.

“The news item is totally baseless and concocted,” Naidu said in his statement.

National daily the Times of India in a report said that after being forced to resign and not being able to chose his successor, en enraged Yeddyurappa smashed Naidu’s laptop on the floor.

Stating that Arun Jaitley and Rajnath Singh were also present when Yeddyurappa came to meet them after his resignation, Naidu said: “There were pleasant exchanges and courteous political dialogue, but no such incident as alleged took place.”

Naidu added that he did not carry a laptop.

“We all were present there; after Mr. Yeddyurappa resigned, we were discussing about the future affairs, there was no such incident,” said Jaitley.

Naidu also said that he expected the newspaper to retract its “unsubstantiated” story.
