Hyderabad : The Andhra Pradesh High Court has adjourned to Thursday its hearing on petitions alleging that YSR Congress Party chief Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy had amassed illegal wealth.
The division bench comprising Chief Justice Nisar Ahmad Kakru and Justice Vilas V. Afzulpurkar Wednesday heard the arguments on petitions of three leaders of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and posted to Thursday the hearing on the petition of K.K. Sherwani, a lawyer from Kadapa.
The bench heard the arguments of Jaganmohan Reddy’s counsel Sushil Kumar on the petitions filed by TDP leaders K. Yerran Naidu, Byreddy Rajasekhar Reddy and Gajapati Raju.
Sushil Kumar said that the petitions were politically motivated.
Referring to the allegations that Jaganmohan amassed huge wealth illegally since 2004 after his father Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy became the chief minister, his counsel wanted to know what were the petitioners doing all these years.
Jaganmohan’s counsel claimed that the petitioners failed to move any evidence to prove their allegations, and argued that there was no need for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI).
The court observed that it only ordered preliminary investigations to satisfy itself as to whether there was any prima facie case.
The court Monday concluded the hearing on the petition filed by Handlooms and Textiles Minister Shankar Rao.
It was on the basis of a letter by Rao in November 2010 that the court took up the case. He alleged that Jaganmohan was worth Rs.11 lakh prior to 2004 but now has assets worth Rs.43,000 crore. He sought a probe by the CBI.
The court July 12 ordered preliminary investigations by the CBI. The federal agency submitted to the court its report in a sealed cover last week. It also filed an additional report Monday.
