New Delhi : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) may be the premier agency probing corruption, but 76 of its own officers are in the dock on a wide variety of charges.
Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office V. Narayanasamy told the Rajya Sabha that departmental enquiries had been launched against 46 CBI officers while 30 others were facing trial.
These officers range from a deputy inspector general to a constable.
Many CBI officers facing trial have been accused of demanding and accepting bribe, according to details provided by the minister in a written statement.
Some have been charged with criminal misconduct, cheating, manipulating birth records and forging caste certificates.
One officer allgedly sent lewd text message to a female colleague.
