Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has decided to form the Minorities’ Development and Finance Commission in the state. The decision was taken in the cabinet meeting held yesterday and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy announced it in the press meet after the cabinet meeting.
The various financial aids from the National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation are now being distributed to the deserving via various corporations in the state. The central government had reportedly asked the state governments to form a separate Commission for the same. The state commission was decided to be formed in this circumstance.
Though a state with a good number of minorities, mainly Muslims and Christians, and the minorities being in a comparatively better position, the state had not yet formed a Minorities Development and Finance Commission. The state decided to form even the State Minorities Commission in late 2009 only.
