Ahmedabad blasts: Bail plea decision of 4 accused on Aug 8

By IANS,

Ahmedabad : A court here Saturday reserved its order till Aug 8 on the bail applications of four accused in the 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts which killed 57 people, a lawyer said.

Additional Sessions Judge B.J. Dhandha was hearing the applications filed by Hasib Raza, Ummar Kabira, Naved Kadri and Salim Sipahi, accused of having links with Islamist terror group Indian Mujahideen.

“The order on the bail plea has been reserved till Monday,” said A.N. Alvi, a lawyer representing Kabira, Kadri and Sipahi.

Twenty synchronised blasts rocked the city July 26, 2008 in which 57 people were killed and hundreds injured.

The bail pleas were opposed by Public Prosecutors H.M. Dhruv, Mithesh Amin, Sudhir Bhrambhatt and Amit Patel on the ground that granting bail to the four would affect the case.

The proceedings were held through video conference between the Sabarmati jail here and the court.

Out of the 95 accused in the case, charges have been framed against 62. The others, including alleged masterminds Iqbal and Riyaz Bhatkal, Abdus Subhan alias Tauqeer and Amir Raza Khan, are absconding.

The 62 accused belong to 11 states and were arrested from different places.
