Andhra speaker issues breach of privilege notice to TDP MLAs

By IANS,

Hyderabad : Taking strong exception to their police complaint that he had gone missing, Andhra Pradesh assembly Speaker N. Manohar Tuesday issued a breach of privilege notice to two rebel legislators of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

The speaker issued notices to N. Janardhan Reddy and K. Harishwar Reddy for lodging a complaint with the police last week that he went missing.

The speaker, who was away on a foreign tour, returned on Aug 14. Manohar expressed his strong displeasure when the legislators met him this evening to submit their resignations to press the demand for separate Telangana state. The legislators have been asked to reply to the notices in seven days.

In all four TDP legislators submitted their resignations Tuesday. Jogu Ramanna accompanied Janardhan Reddy and Harishwar Reddy while S. Venugopalachari sent his resignation letter.

The speaker had rejected the resignations of over 100 legislators from the region on July 23 before leaving for London. He said he was rejecting them as the resignations were submitted in an emotionally charged atmosphere.

Since then the four TDP MLAs had repeatedly visited the speaker’s office to again tender their resignations but learnt that the speaker has not come back. Janardhan Reddy and Harishwar Reddy last week went to Saifabad police station near assembly and lodged a complaint that the speaker went missing.

Janardhan Reddy also created a flutter during flag hoisting by the speaker in the assembly premises on the Independence Day by raising slogans of “Jai Telangana”.
