Bangalore : About 1,000 students of the Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore (IIM-B) skipped a meal Tuesday in protest against the arrest of civil society activist Anna Hazare in New Delhi and resolved to stage sit-in demonstrations everyday till the central government agrees to a strong Lokpal bill.
“We have skipped our lunch as a mark of support to the cause of Hazare and staged a demo against his arrest. A group of 20 students will stage a peaceful protest in the campus everyday in turns for a strong Lokpal bill to fight corruption,” the B-school students’ cell said in a statement here.
The b-school’s academics dean Trilochan Sastri has pledged to skip a meal everyday until the government agreed to a strong Lokpal bill.
“The students have decided to wear black t-shirts inside out to send a message to the government that corrupt system should be turned upside down,” post-graduate management course student Mihir Mogre said.
Many students have also decided to stage a protest march outside the institute or join the protest rally at Freedom Park in the city centre where hundreds of civil society activists and members of the non-government organsations have launched a fast protest against Hazare’s arrest.
“Students of IIM Ahmedabad, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Gandhinagar, Guwahati and Hyderabad have agreed to join us in support of our cause and set up an online petition to mobilise support for a strong Lokpal to fight against graft in the country,” the statement noted.
