UAE medical team reaches out to famine victims

Nairobi : A UAE medical mission has arrived to inspect health condition of thousands of refugees who walked long distances to reach scattered camps at Dadaab area on the Kenyan-Somaliyan border.

Dadaab is the world’s largest refugee camp and covers a total area of 50 square kilometres near the border between Kenya and Somalia.

Following their findings, the team of doctors and surgeons will set up a mobile hospital to deliver diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive services to refugees who fled acute drought that hit the Horn of Africa countries.

Adel Al Shameri, CEO of Emirates world humanitarian mobile Hospital, described as the situation in these camps as tragice and called for stakeholders to mobilise all their resources and energies to provide best curative and preventive services in drought-stricken countries – Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia and Djibouti.

Over 12 million people are facing a severe food crisis spawned by the region’s worst drought in six decades.
