Tests conducted on Iran’s n-plant turbines

By IANS,

Tehran : The turbines of Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant were successfully tested, the country’s atomic energy chief said Wednesday.

The turbines were successfully tested Tuesday at the speed of 3,000-cycle, said Abbasi Davani, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran.

Davani said the power to the plant’s reactor reached 4,000 megawatt and the plant’s pre-launch phase will start Aug 30.

“Transfer of centrifuges from Natanz uranium enrichment facility to Fordo site is underway. Everything is under IAEA supervision, based on the international standards,” the state-run IRNA news agency quoted him as saying.

He added that Iran has produced 20 percent enriched uranium for medical use and has no plan to enhance the percentage of uranium enrichment further.

The construction of the plant was completed after a delay of three decades. It was originally scheduled in 1999 under a deal signed by Iran with Russia in 1995.

In October 2010, Iran began injecting fuel into the reactor. Engineers later removed the fuel rods for safety reasons.

The unloading of the fuel delayed the plant’s connection to the national grid, initially scheduled for early 2011.
