Jharkhand to construct flats for displaced people

By IANS,

Ranchi : Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda Thursday laid the foundation stone in Ranchi to construct 856 flats for those poor people who were displaced during a demolition drive in January.

“We had promised to provide houses for poor displaced people. Today we have started work on it. These flats will be provided to the displaced people. There is need to revise the master plan of Ranchi to make Ranchi a beautiful city where everyone could be accommodated,” said Munda after laying the foundation stone at Rudigadda of Ranchi.

Under the rehabilitation plan, the state government announced to provide small flats to displaced people. On the Jharkhand High Court directive a demolition drive was launched in January this year in many districts, including Ranchi. Thousands of people were rendered homeless and five people protesting the demolition drive were killed in police firing in Ranchi and Dhanbad.
