Dhaka : Bangladeshi nationals living in the Libyan capital Tripoli are to be evacuated from the troubled country by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).
A group of Bangladeshis – along with 1,000 other people – were expected to be evacuated Sunday or Monday by ship from Tripoli, the Daily Star reported.
However, the number of Bangladeshi nationals in Tripoli has not been confirmed.
“We do not exactly know the number of Bangladeshis there. We shall evacuate those who arrive at the (Tripoli) harbour,” Jean Philippe Chauzy, IOM spokesperson in Geneva, was quoted as saying.
A Bangladeshi student named Muhammad Shahabuddin told BBC that if the situation does not improve, there could be a food crisis in Tripoli as most shops were closed and they were not able to go outside for security reasons.
