Ghaziabad : A Ghaziabad court has summoned a former police station chief, a sub-inspector and four constables of Uttar Pradesh Police as suspects in a 2009 case of alleged staged shootout in which two criminals were killed, a lawyer said Saturday.
Additional District Judge (ADJ) A.K. Gupta earlier ordered the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) D.D. Ojha to summon the accused policemen Sep 26.
Police claimed Feroz and Rahees were killed March 3, 2009 in a shootout in Link Road area. The victims’ parents alleged they were murdered.
The CJM Friday summoned Jitendra Kalra, former SHO Link Road police station, sub-inspector H.N. Singh and four constables under penal provisions for murder, abduction, causing disappearance of evidence and conspiracy.
Taking cognizance of a plea filed by advocate Sanjay Tyagi and Khalid Khan, on behalf of the victims’ kin, ADJ Gupta directed the CJM to summon the policemen as accused.
The ADJ discarded the police theory that the two were killed in a shootout and mentioned in the order that registration of a first information report in which police mentioned the victims as unidentified showed they were prejudiced from the beginning, Khan said.
