Shimla : The Himachal Pradesh High Court has let off an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer with a warning to mend his ways and recalled its earlier order divesting him of his judicial powers.
The court was hearing the review petiton of Sanjay Gupta, posted as divisional commissioner in Kangra.
In a copy of the judgment made available here Monday, a single-judge bench of Justice Deepak Gupta observed: “I am of the view that he may be given one more chance to improve himself.”
The high court in its Aug 3 order asked the state government to divest him of judicial powers and post a competent officer in his place by Sep 15.
It was hearing a plea of Sanjay Kumar, who challenged an order passed by Gupta, saying the divisional commissioner did not judge his revenue case on its merits.
The court observed that Gupta “has little knowledge of law and who despite an earlier warning given by the high court has not cared to improve”.
In his review petition, Gupta pleaded that in case he is removed from the post, he would suffer throughout his career, and sought the deletion of the adverse comments.
