Chennai: AIADMK chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa Thursday said her party MPs will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi Friday and submit a memorandum pertaining to Kerala government’s stand on Mullaperiyar Dam.
In a statement issued here, Jayalalithaa said: “As the Kerala government is blowing up the issue, a delegation of Members of Parliament belonging to AIADMK will be led by M. Thambidurai to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Friday morning at 11.30 a.m. and submit a memorandum.”
She accused the Kerala government of spreading rumours that the Mullaperiyar Dam is unsafe and clamouring for a new dam for political advantage.
Referring to the pending case in the apex court and the appointment of an Empowered Committee by the court to study the dam safety, Jayalalithaa alleged: “The Kerala government is trying to build a new dam in various ways. The Kerala government and the political parties are spreading a fear psychosis amongst the people there about the dam.”
