Kolkata: Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee Saturday visited West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s ailing mother in a state-run hospital here.
Mukherjee drove straight to the SSKM hospital from the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport and spent around ten minutes with the chief minister’s mother Gayatri at her cabin.
“I came to see Gayatri Banerjee. The doctors have told me that she is critical but they are taking all measures for improvement in her condition. Let us pray for her,” Mukherjee told media persons after coming out of the cabin. The chief minister, however, was not present at the hospital then.
The 81-year-old Gayatri has been in the hospital since Nov 25 with renal problems.
