Hyderabad: Hyderabad police since last week had a tough time arranging massive security as this year, the historic Bibi Ka Alam procession and the black day coincided. The security agencies were worried regarding the outcome of the day as very recently there were attacks on Muslim youths in the city. The massive security arrangements in the city ensured calmness.

The old city witnessed some tense moments during the historic Bibi Ka Alam procession, two groups were very near to violent disputes, first at khadme-rasool near Charminar area and then at darulshifa a ghetto of shia Muslims in the city. Trouble started in the noon when one among the trespasser’s accidentally collided with a participant in the procession. This lead to an argument and tension started building up as the verbal fight soon got worse. Some among the participants of the procession then started gathering at Agrapally, in order to fight the other group who already gathered there.
Immediately police came in to action being led by the commissioner of task force and were successful in preventing a clash by pacifying the Shias and Sunnis.

In another incident by around evening, a group of people attending a Majlis in an Ashoorakhana at Darulshifa raised objection to the use of mikes at a nearby Sunni mosque, where a religious meeting was on progress. Those members of Shia community who were attending the Majlis rushed to the mosque and started condemning the use of mikes. The additional commissioner of police Amit Garg, appealed both groups to maintain restrain while performing their respective religious duties. Apart from those incidents the procession was peaceful, the Alam started by around 12:40 pm being participated by thousands of mourners who kept on wounding themselves with sharp objects.

The 19th Babri Masjid demolition day unlike old times in Hyderabad remained a low key affair and was peaceful. Protests were organized by some Muslim organizations in the state and those remained peaceful. Darsgah jihad-o-shahadat, which used to take out rally as protest annually on each Babri day, was stopped by the police from carrying out a rally this year. Being angry at the police decision some DJS activists burned the effigy of government in front of their party office in Moghulpura. Before any further protests they were taken in to preventive custody and were sent to the nearby police station. There were meetings in different mosques within the city condemning, the heinous 19 year old hindutwa fascist attack on Babri Masjid.
