Odisha abolishes discretionary housing quota

By IANS,

Bhubaneswar : Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Wednesday abolished the discretionary quota system in the allotment of houses and lands in the state’s urban areas.

The move came days after his government faced criticism over the alleged irregularities in the allotment of houses and lands in the state.

The chief minister has directed all the state-run development authorities and the state housing board to stop the allotment of land, plots, houses based on discretionary quota with immediate effect, a senior functionary of his office told IANS.

The state government led by Patnaik was under criticism recently for allotting houses, lands and plots to different influential persons, including the existing and former judges, bureaucrats and politicians and ministers.
