Srinagar : Jammu and Kashmir summer capital Srinagar witnessed the coldest night of the season so far with the minimum temperature dropping to minus 3.2 degrees Celsius early Monday. Leh town froze at minus 14.2 degrees.
“The coldest place in the state today (Monday) was the Leh town in the Ladakh region which witnessed a bone-chilling minus 14.2 degrees Celsius,” Sonam Lotus, director of the local meteorological office, told IANS here.
“In the Kargil town, the minimum temperature was minus 9.6 degrees. The minimum temperature in north Kashmir’s ski resort of Gulmarg was minus 10.2 degrees while it was minus 6.6 degrees in south Kashmir’s Pahalgam,” Lotus said.
He said the night temperatures are likely to drop further during the next few days.
“We do not expect any rain or snowfall here for the next five days. This means the minimum temperatures would dip further because of clear night skies across the valley and the Ladakh region,” Lotus said.
