No compromise on sovereignty: Pakistan PM

By IANS,

Islamabad: Pakistan will not compromise on sovereignty and national honour, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said.

Gilani Tuesday said that under no circumstances could Pakistan accept flagrant transgression of its territorial frontiers and this remains the baseline. He also reiterated that there could be no compromise on sovereignty, dignity and national honour, reported Associated Press of Pakistan.

Addressing the concluding session of two-day envoys’ conference of Pakistan’s ambassadors and high commissions here, the prime minister said the aerial attacks on Pakistan Army border posts Nov 26 constituted a huge setback to the prospects of much-needed cooperation between important stakeholders.

The NATO airstrike had left two dozen soldiers dead, prompting an angry Pakistan to cut off NATO supply, boycott an international conference on Afghanistan’s future and ordering the US to vacate the Shamsi airbase that used to launch drone attacks.

Pakistan has been upset with the US ever since the May 2 raid to kill Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad. American commandos had carried out the daring operation without informing Islamabad.
