Aligarh: Terming media reports baseless, Aligarh Muslim University on Wednesday said the Delhi High Court has not stayed meeting of the varsity’s Executive Council to finalize the panel of five names for the new Vice Chancellor. The court on Tuesday reportedly stayed the proceeding for selection of new VC and issued notice to the Union of India, CBI, Ministry of HRD and UGC asking their replies to be filed within four weeks.
“The order of the court received today did not mention any “stay” of the meeting of the Executive Council to finalize the panel of five names for the new Vice Chancellor,” said the VC office in a press statement on Wednesday. “The order only records the information provided by the Petitioner’s counsel to the court that ‘despite that issuance of specific directions by the Government of India restraining the respondent No.5 from taking any policy decision, the respondent No.5/Vice Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Aligarh U.P is still going ahead with the meetings of Executive Council today’” the statement said.
“The news published today in all print and electronic media that the High Court also stayed the AMU’s Executive Council meeting convened on 13.12.2011 by Prof. P.K. Abdul Azis to finalize the names of five candidates one of whom would be chosen his successor, to the post of AMU VC is completely baseless and not based on the orders of the Hon’ble High Court,” said the AMU communication.
