By IANS,

Srinagar: Police have registered a case against the chairman and some other officials of the Jammu and Kashmir school education board for depicting the local policemen as “cruel” in one of the vernacular school text books.

“We have registered a case of sedition, defamation and criminal conspiracy against those officials of the board of school education J&K responsible for supervision and publication of a picture in one of the board’s Urdu text books depicting policemen as ‘Zalim’ which means cruel.

“We have started questioning of those responsible and law will take its course,” a senior police officer told IANS here.

In one of its vernacular text books titled ‘Baharistan-e-Urdu’, which is part of the prescribed course, the state education board has described a person in uniform with a bamboo stick as ‘cruel’.

Board authorities said they were making inquiries as to how the picture got into the text book and instructions has been issued to delete the picture from the text book.
