Islamabad: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani Sunday turned down Information and Broadcasting Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan’s resignation from her post as minister during a one-on-one meeting, the News reported.
A tearful Awan had announced her resignation during a televised cabinet meeting earlier Sunday morning, saying: “I endorse your leadership (but) I think I am not competent enough to continue as cabinet member and hence submit my resignation.”
Awan might have been forced to resign due to her failure to convincingly defend the government in the memogate scandal, according to some analysts, Dawn reported.
Later, Gilani during his one-on-one meeting with Awan, assured the minister of addressing her grievances.
The minister later told reporters that Gilani declined to accept her resignation and assured he would address her all reservations.
“I talked openly and expressed my reservations to the prime minister. I do not want to stick to a position where problems and hurdles are created in the effective running of the affairs of the ministry,” Awan said.
She said the prime minister assured to address her reservations relating to her ministry. “Now I am satisfied. I always stand with party and leadership”.
