Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy while visiting the Old City of Hyderabad on 2nd Feb. announced several schemes for the all-round development of the areas predominantly inhabited by Muslims. Announcing the measures, the CM said true development of the capital city of Andhra Pradesh can happen only when it begins from the old city.
He said the state government is spending Rs 2,000 crores to develop civic infrastructure like roads, drains, drinking water, sewerage, power and housing for the poor in these areas. Close to Rs. 1,000 crore has already been spent to tone up sewerage in the area, he informed at a public meeting organized by Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen.

On a spree of populist announcement, the CM said a new Haj House will be built at Baba Sharifuddin Dargah near Shamshabad. A 100-acre Special Economic Zone will come up at the APHB and Wakf Board land. He also said that a branch of National Academy of Construction will be set up in the Old City. Besides, he announced that Rs 20 crore will be given to Quli Qutb Shah Urban Development Authority, Rs 3.5 crore for Nizamia Hospita and Rs 1 crore for Barkas Hospital.
On the demand of MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, younger brother of Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, that the Muslim youths implicated in the Mecca Masjid blast should be freed and properly compensated, the CM said the cases against such youths will be lifted and will be compensated. He said it has become necessary after the CBI conclusion that Hindu militants were behind the bombing at the city’s historic mosque.
