Mumbai: The hearing on the bail application of nine Muslims accused in the 2006 Malegaon blast case has been deferred till February 09. According to Advocate Nehal Ansari, counsel for the accused, postponing the hearing this afternoon (7th Feb), the special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court in Mumbai has also instructed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to submit the certified copy of the Swami Aseemanand’s confessional statement.
After the confession of Swami Aseemanand about his role in the 2006 Malegaon and other blasts, the nine Muslim accused in the case approached the special MCOCA court on January 17 seeking bail. The court then asked the petitioners to submit a certified copy of the confessional statement of Swami Aseemanand by February 07.
But when they approached the Tees Hazari Court in New Delhi to get the confessional statement, the court refused to give it to them and instead asked the petitioners to take the statement from the CBI.
After Aseemanand’s confession taking responsibility for the blasts, the CBI is reinvestigating the 2006 Malegaon blasts and has already visited the town on 20 January.
Two blasts rocked the textile town on 8 September 2006 ahead of Shab-e-Barat, a Muslim festival, in which 32 people were killed and more than 300 injured.
