Journalist back in Sweden after attack in Egypt

By DPA,

Stockholm : A Swedish television reporter assaulted last week on assignment in Egypt has been flown back to Sweden and is recovering in hospital Wednesday.

Bert Sundstrom, one of the country’s most experienced foreign correspondents, was reported as missing Thursday but was later found in a Cairo hospital, being treated for apparent stab wounds and a head injury.

“His doctors say he should not meet anyone other than his wife for the time being,” said Ingrid Thornqvist, head of public broadcaster SVT’s foreign news department, after meeting the reporter.

Sundstrom said he was “lucky” to have survived the attack, saying he was “brutally assaulted” by a mob of civilians.

Several media organisations have in recent days reported similar incidents, and there have been reports of attacks on journalists trying to cover the protests.
