The police rushed to the rescue efforts following an alert from Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur district superintendent of Police about the incident, Nashik Deputy Superintendent of Police P.R. Patil said.

Shyam Lal, the father of Raj Shekhar from the prime minister’s security detaol, was kidnapped from Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh Wednesday morning, sounding a major security concern in the state and also in New Delhi.

A strong posse of armed personnel from Ghoti Police Station lay siege near the entry check post to the district, around 32 kms away from the district headquarters.

There, they saw a UP registered vehicle parked outside a wayside eatery and surrounded the place.

Seeing the police, the two kidnappers attempted to flee, but were stopped in their tracks.

Patil said that the police also searched the vehicle and found the victim, Shyam Lal (59), tied up inside.

By evening, a team from the UP Police which was on a hot chase of the kidnappers also reached Nashik and interrogated the kidnappers.

The accused have been identified as Jaunpur residents Rajukumar Basantilal Morya (24) and Deepak Lalji Patel (25).

The entire operation was supervised by Nashik Superintendent of Police Milind Bharambe, and executed by Patil, officials R. N. Hajare, Girish Patil, Navnath Pawar and other police officials of Ghoti Police Station.

Patil said that the UP Police were questioning the kidnappers, who would be handed over to them.
