Trinamool inciting Darjeeling violence: Bengal minister

By IANS,

Kolkata : West Bengal Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister Asok Bhattacharya Friday accused the Trinamool Congress of trying to gain political mileage by inciting violence in the Darjeeling hills and the Dooars in Jalpaiguri.

“The Trinamool has no base in the hills. It is using the (Gorkha Janamukti) Morcha (GJM) to incite violence in the hills and gain political mileage,” said Bhattacharya, who hails from Siliguri in Darjeeling district.

Condemning the Tuesday morning violence which claimed two lives in police firing in the Dooars area — the floodplains and foothills of the eastern Himalayas – of Jalapaiguri district, Bhattacharya said: “The people are tired of violence. They have lost trust in the Morcha.”

“The (GJM) activists are intentionally stirring up violence. We want peace, but the Morcha is trying to derail the peace initiatives,” he said, on the sidelines of a programme here.

Bhattacharya also accused the Trinamool, the GJM and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of joining hands to use violence to create political instability.
