By IRNA,
Berlin : European Union foreign policy supremo Catherine Ashton plans to travel to Egypt for political talks with the Muslim Brotherhood, the weekly news magazine Der Spiegel said in a report published Saturday.
She stressed all political groups, including also the Muslim Brotherhood, had to be included in Egypt’s democratization process.
Ashton called for holding elections in Egypt as soon as possible, saying the transition phase in the Arab country should last no longer than a few months.
The EU’s top diplomat urged the present Egyptian leadership to present a concrete road map for preparing the elections in that country.
She stressed that the success of the Egyptian elections depended on the all-out support of the Egyptian society.
Ashton had been harshly criticized for not openly backing Egypt’s pro-democracy movement and not demanding Mubarak’s ouster.
Earlier this month, German press reports pointed to ongoing talks between Berlin and the Muslim Brotherhood.
There are discussions with moderate forces within the Muslim Brotherhood organization, the German Press Agency (dpa) quoted German government circles as saying.
