New Delhi: India’s President, Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh and Vice President, M. Hamid Ansari on Tuesday greeted the nation on the auspicious occasion of Milad-un-Nabi, the birthday of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), being observed tomorrow.
Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi, which occurs in Rabi’ al-awwal, the third month in the Islamic calendar is being celebrated by Shias on the 17th of the month, while Sunnis observe it on the 12th of the month.
“On the auspicious occasion of Milad-Un-Nabi, the birthday of the Holy Prophet Mohammed, I convey my greetings and good wishes to all my fellow citizens”, said Patil in her message.
”May the message of universal brotherhood, compassion, tolerance and service to humanity preached by the Holy Prophet, guide and inspire us to follow the path of harmony and work for the welfare of all,” the Indian president added.
Meanwhile, the Vice President, M. Hamid Ansari, while greeting the countrymen on the auspicious occasion said that Milad-Un-Nabi reminds us of the life and spiritual teachings of Holy Prophet Mohammad (PBUH). Through the message of love, humanism, righteousness and tolerance, the teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBHU) continues to be a source of spiritual strength for all humanity.
“May the enlightened message of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) unite us all and guide us on the path of peace and harmony,” he added.
“The birth and life of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) symbolises a message of selflessness, brotherhood and amity among people,” said Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh in his message.
Greeting the nation on the occasion, Dr. Singh said that the Holy Prophet (PBUH)’s life and work is an inspiration to lead a life of compassion and brotherhood. May the festival spread peace, love and tolerance among all, he added.
The Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was born in 570 A.D. in the Arabian city known as Holy Mecca, affirming the messages of the previous Prophets including the great Prophets Hazrat Adam, Hazrat Nooh, Hazrat Ibraheem, Hazrat Moosa and Hazrat Issa (Peace Be Upon Them All.) This Light of Guidance was sent as “Mercy to the worlds” to uplift the state of humanity in general and women in particular.
