Egypt bans ex-minister from travelling abroad

By IANS,

Cairo : Egyptian judicial authorities Wednesday barred former minister of agriculture Amin Abaza and two National Democratic Party (NDP) members from travelling abroad and froze their assets, Xinhua reported.

The decision also prevented family members of the former minister and two businessmen, Mohamed Abul Einein and Amr Mansi, from leaving Egypt, the local daily Al Masry Al Youm reported.

The travel ban was imposed after several reports accused the three of being involved in corruption in the eastern Ismailia city.

Last week, Egyptian general prosecutor had banned three ex-ministers and a former senior member of NDP from travel and frozen their assets to question them in corruption cases, following the uprising that forced President Hosni Mubarak to step down Feb 11.
