Over Rs.6,000 crore from automobile excise in April-January 2010-11

New Delhi : Government revenue from excise duty on the automobile sector grew by 32.90 percent and stood at Rs.6,197.99 crore in the first nine months of the fiscal 2010-11, parliament was told Thursday

“Government in the form of excise duty from the automobile sector, including scooters, for the period 2010-11 (April-January) is Rs.6,197.99 crore as compared to Rs.4,663.73 crore in the corresponding period in the last year, showing a growth of 32.90 percent,” Minister of State for Heavy Industries A. Sai Prathap told the Lok Sabha.

As per data provided by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the sale in automobile sector grew by 27.56 percent during the first nine months and stood at 1,26,76,247 units as compared to 99,37,850 units during the corresponding period in the last fiscal, he said.

Meanwhile, the country exported 19,37,170 units of automobiles, including scooters, during the first nine months of the current fiscal year.

“As per SIAM, the total exports of automobiles, including scooters, during the period 2010-11 (April-January) is 19,37,170,” Prathap said.
