Dense fog hours over Delhi airport up by 10 times

By IANS,

New Delhi : Dense fog hours — having visibility of less than 200 metres — over Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) have increased 10 times during December-January months in the past few years, Minister of State for Science and Technology Ashwani Kumar told parliament Thursday.

Replying to a question in the Lok Sabha, Kumar said an increasing trend in fog hours is being noticed in recent years and there is evidence of 10 times increase in dense fog hours over Delhi airport during December-January months.

He said the finding was based on analysis of data since 1981.

“The increased quantum of vehicular traffic/rapid industrialisation over the years is the main reason for the increased concentration of the pollutants,” he said.
