Nagpur physio to help out New Zealand team

By IANS,

Nagpur : The Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) Thursday lent their physio Sanil Koyili to the New Zealand team after their physiotherapist Dayle Shackel and trainer Bryan Stronach had to rush home to be with their families at Christchurch, which was rocked by an earhtquake.

The New Zealand team approached Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the services of another New Zealander Paul Close, who is the physio at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore, ahead of their crucial Group A match against Australia here Friday.

But the request was turned down by the BCCI, citing the physio’s preoccupation and it prompted veteran all-rounder Scott Styris to tweet: “Does anyone know of a physio here in India? Unfortunately the bcci won’t let us borrow their kiwi-born academy physio.”

It was then the VCA stepped in by lending Koyili, a physio with the Wockhardt Hospital, to help the team during their stay here.

Shackel and Stronach are expected to join the team in a week’s time.

The earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand’s second largest city, Tuesday claimed 98 lives.

The Friday’s match here has been given the status of the annual Chappell-Hadlee Trophy.
