Telangana trouble continues in Andhra assembly

By IANS,

Hyderabad : The Andhra Pradesh assembly was adjourned twice Friday as Telangana legislators continued to stall proceedings demanding a resolution for creating a separate Telangana state.

No business could be conducted as members of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and Telangana legislators from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) raised slogans and rushed towards the speaker’s podium.

Deputy Speaker Nadendla Manohar, who rejected the adjournment motions sought to be moved by the TRS and TDP, adjourned the house for 15 minutes amid pandemonium. When the house re-assembled, the ruckus continued, forcing the deputy speaker to adjourn it again for half-an-hour.

The ruling Congress may face more trouble in the house as its legislators from Telangana also plan to join the protests. They began a meeting at the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) office in the assembly premises to chalk out their future course of action.

A section of Congress legislators had Thursday indicated that they would follow in the footsteps of party MPs by raising their demand for Telangana resolution in the assembly.

The TRS, the Communist Party of India (CPI), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Telangana legislators of the TDP have been disrupting the assembly proceedings ever since the budget session began Feb 17.

Three members of the TRS and two of the TDP were suspended for a week for their unruly behaviour during Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan’s address to the joint session of both the houses on the first day.

Twelve legislators of the TRS, CPI and the BJP were suspended for one day on Wednesday when they stalled proceedings.
