Chandigarh: Punjab Education Minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan Tuesday demanded the prosecution of Congress president Sonia Gandhi for ensuring the safe exit of Ottavio Quattrocchi, the Italian businessman in the Bofors gun case.
The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson needs to be criminally prosecuted for letting off Quattrocchi, a close friend of the Gandhi family, the minister said in a statement.
Sekhwan also said all those behind letting off Quattrocchi should be brought to book now that an income tax tribunal bench has revealed about the bribe paid to the Italian and Win Chadha in the Rs.1,500-crore Bofors deal.
He claimed that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is now virtually working as a “Congress Bureau of Investigation” and that it cannot cope with the pressure from the UPA chairperson.
He also sought the immediate dismissal of Karnataka Governor H.R. Bhardwaj for allowing the de-freezing of the two accounts held by Quattrocchi in Swiss banks.
