Chandigarh : All six corporation cities in Punjab will have a maxi-cab service to supplement the local transport system, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal announced Tuesday.
These cities are Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Bathinda, Patiala and Mohali.
“Besides providing door-step services to the residents of these cities, the service will also connect adjoining and isolated villages devoid of a regular bus service,” a state government spokesman said here.
Badal directed the state transport secretary to operationalise these services within two months as people living in isolated villages were facing a lot of problems in commuting.
Badal said that after monitoring the success of this service, the scheme would be replicated in other bigger towns within one year.
