Mumbai: Mumbai police Sunday booked six people, including the builder, contractor and maintenance supervisor of Rustomjee Towers where five labourers were killed after a service lift came crashing down Sunday afternoon, police said.
“We have registered offences against the six concerned people, including the builder, contractor and maintenance supervisor for negligence in the matter,” zonal Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjay Bawiskar told mediapersons here.
Five labourers were killed and at least one injured seriously when the shaft of the service lift of the under-construction building came crashing down here.
“The local people and the police rushed the victims to the Sion Hospital. Later, the police informed us and we went to the spot,” Mumbai Fire Brigade’s Chief Fire Officer U.K. Tatkare said.
According to police, the labourers were carrying out some lift repairs when its shaft suddenly gave away on the 11th floor and it came crashing down.

Mumbai mayor Shraddha Jadhav, local representatives and others visited the scene of the tragedy and consoled the families of the victims.
