Srinagar : A cold wave continued to lash the valley and the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir as minimum temperatures dipped further Monday.
“The minimum temperature in summer capital Srinagar was minus 2.2 degrees Celsius. It was minus 20.2 in Leh and minus 15.8 degrees in Kargil town of Ladakh division Monday,” said R.L. Pandita, assistant director of the local weather office here.
The meteorologist also said the minimum recorded in south Kashmir’s Pahalgam hill station was minus 11.7 and in the Gulmarg ski resort it was minus 11.0 degrees Celsius.
“We are expecting the dry, cold weather to continue for the next two days and after that, moderate to heavy snowfall is likely here Jan 13,” Pandita said.
The further drop in minimum temperatures is attributed to clear night skies by the weather office.
“We had some marginal relief from cold wave conditions in the valley during the last week because of overcast night skies. Now that we are likely to have clear skies for the next two days, the minimum temperatures are expected to fall further in the coming two days,” said the meteorologist.
The minimum temperatures recorded in summer capital Srinagar was minus 0.1 degrees and minus 13 in Leh and Kargil towns Sunday.
