Lucknow : A police sub-inspector in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur district has been arrested for killing his subordinate after the latter threatened to expose a recruitment racket being run by him, police said Tuesday.
Sajan Kumar, posted in the office of the Mirzapur police chief, was arrested Monday along with one of his three accomplices involved in killing police constable Mahanarayan Tiwari.
The mutilated body of 52-year-old Tiwari was recovered from the railway tracks in Devapura Pachwal village Jan 6.
From the beginning, police believed Tiwari was murdered at some other place and his body was dumped on the railway tracks to give an accident angle to the crime.
“Investigations reveal that Sajan had assured the constable to get his son placed in the railways in lieu of Rs.3 lakh. As per the demand made by Sajan, the constable provided him the money.
“However, after several months when Sajan was not able to keep his promise, the constable threatened to register a case against him if he failed to refund the money,” police inspector Ramesh Chaubey told reporters Tuesday in Mirzapur, some 350 km from Lucknow.
During the enquiry, police learnt that Tiwari was last seen riding a rickshaw along with Kumar in Mirzapur.
“When we became suspicious about the sub-inspector, we picked him for interrogation after which he admitted that he had killed the constable as he feared action against himself,” said Chaubey.
